Winery list for Cotes du Rhone Village

In a vacation-like setting, the majestic sites of Avignon and its Palais des Papes, the ancient theater of Orange, and innumerable post-card villages accentuate this wine-producing area. Ninety-five villages comprise this appellation on both sides of the Rhône.

The clay-limestone soils here make for fertile red wines that are dense and colorful, and have powerful aromas of dark fruits such as blackberry and blueberry. The arid and stony soils are the source of more delicate wines.

Wines produced here must comprise of more than 50% Grenache and at least 20% Syrah or Mourvèdre. The maximum authorized output is less than that of the regional Côtes du Rhône appellation.

Only sixteen villages occupying the best terroirs are able to claim this appellation. They are: Beaumes-de-Venise, Cairanne, Chusclan, Laudun, Rasteau, Roaix, Rochegude, Rousset-les-Vignes, Sablet, Saint-Gervais, Saint-Maurice, Saint-Pantaléon-les-Vignes, Séguret, Valréas, Vinsobres and Visan.

Dominant varietals: Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah
