Winery list for Saint Chinian

The Benedictine monks planted the vines in the village of Saint-Chinian during the eighth century. Since obtained in 1982, this AOC has been focused on the quality and the identification of the best terroirs.

Two types of terroirs on both sides of the valley distinguish the wines of Saint-Chinian:

  • clay-limestone soils to the south
  • schist and sandstone fields to the north.

The wines of Saint-Chinian are blended from several varietals using a minimum of 60% Grenache along with Syrah or Mourvèdre.

The reds of Saint-Chinian are concentrated, distinguished, and complex with notes black currant and laurel. Their structure is robust and, with age, aromas of cocoa, toast, and fruit brandy appear.

Dominant varietals: Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah
